The use of triggers
for brass instruments specially the low brass is very common.
For making the best instrument is still a very difficult task
even for the most well known instrument makers in the world. The
sound, tuning, looks, good and easy playing are just a view problems
we have to deal with. Each problem is connected and that's why
it is so difficult to make a top-brass instrument. And then we
have the problem of the many styles and different kind of brass
players. The use of a trigger is a good tool for making you to
play in tune and not loosing your sound. You can devote your technique
for making sound(music) and not for bending your notes the right
way. This MMIS-custom trigger is developed for the Besson 1967
and 1968 sovereign Euphoniums. Specially the f, f sharp and g
are always on the high side.
By moving the main
tuning slide and not the 1st or 3rd valve slide like the old Miraphone
euphonium, you can very easy lower the pitch almost a º note
(maximum operated).
The lever of this
trigger is placed between the 3rd slide valve and is operated
with your left thumb. Connected to the lever there is the tuning
rod (for tuning the main tuning slide).
On the main tuning slide there is a brace to connect this tuning rod.On both ends of the tuning rod there are two miniballs. The material I use is mainly 8mm brass, for the lever arm and the tuning rod.The spring a use is a very heavy one otherwise the action will be to slow.
